Class A extinguishers will put out fires in ordinary combustibles such as trash, wood and paper. These extinguishers typically use water or certain types of dry chemicals to either absorb or coat the fire. At Nowak, we have a large variety of extinguishers to meet your needs in our Online Workstore.
Class B extinguishers put out flammable liquids like gasoline, alcohol, oil-based paints, and lacquers. When possible, turn off the fuel supply before extinguishing the fire. This step will prevent unburned gasses from accumulating and causing further ignition. TJ Nowak is a world-class provider of custom mix Class B extinguishers.
Class C extinguishers are suitable for use only on electrically energized fires. “Energized” in this case means that it is fed by a power source. Class C fires may begin from a short circuit, faulty wiring, power cord damage, overcharged devices, or overloaded electrical outlets. Class C extinguishers use non-liquid dry chemicals to smother the fire and separate the oxygen from the fuel source. Don’t be confused, all extinguishers are not the same.
Class D extinguishers are designed for use on flammable metals. Class D fires involve combustible metals, such as magnesium, titanium, and sodium. Our Class D extinguishers use a proprietary dry powder material that will smother the fire and not react with combusting materials. Please note that a general use A, B or C type extinguisher will not work on these types of fires. It is imperative to utilize the correct certified & serviced extinguishers.
Class K extinguishers are used on fires fueled by flammable liquids unique to cooking, such as cooking oils and greases that are vegetable and animal fat-based. Extinguishers with a K rating are required where deep-fryers and/or griddles are utilized to prepare large quantities of food. An example would be a commercial kitchen similar to those found in restaurants and cafeterias. If you are in the restaurant industry, please be sure that you are using the correct extinguisher for the safety of your employees and your equipment
ABC Multipurpose Extinguishers have more than one classification of fire. An extinguisher with an ABC rating is suitable for fires involving ordinary combustibles, flammable liquids, and energized electrical equipment. An extinguisher used with multiple hazards will include a symbol for each hazard type. Every TJ Nowak extinguisher is clearly marked for its intended use. One of our fire experts would be happy to guide you through our large selection to find the correct extinguisher for you.
